This marks the first time Puerto Rico has received a Gold medal in singles tennis. USANA or Usana Health Sciences, Inc., is a multi-level marketing company that develops and distributes nutraceuticals and other nutritional products. Monica Puig, a singles tennis player, is one of the 70 athletes USANA sponsored and supported to compete in the Olympic Summer Games in Brazil. Although she came into the Olympics ranked number 35 in the world, she was determined to beat all the other players. Eventually she had to play against the German tennis player Angelique Kerber in the final competition. Puig beat Kerber and swiftly captured the gold. Puig was very happy and proud of her accomplishments while talking with reporters. She is the only woman from Puerto Rico to win a medal in the Summer Games since 1948 when the Caribbean Island first sent in their Olympic delegates. Madison Keys was another USANA Brand Ambassador that qualified for the Olympics. Keys ended up taking fourth place in the women’s singles tennis event.
